Report for September Holiday Skate Camp for Juniors

Report by Jon Wong
Skateline Instructor

Skateline recently completed our 2nd Skate Camp for the year. The 3 day camp was held in the mornings from the 1st till 3rd of September at our Bishan Park skating rink, and received a crowd of 30 children. There were new faces who joined us for the first time, and familiar faces as well, who signed up with our previous camp back in June. It was a great chance for old friendships to rekindle, and new ones forged, not just for the children, but for their parents, grandparents, relatives, etc as well.

Throughout the 3 day camp, of 2 hours per day, the children learned and enjoy the sport of inline skating from our instructors, Mr David Ng and Mr Mike Tang.

The students were divided into 2 groups, the beginners and the advanced skaters. The beginners learned the very basics of inline skating, from standing, proper falling techniques and movements, under Mr David, while the advanced skaters learned skills which enhanced their capabilities, from better striding techniques, more effective stopping to smoother turning and appreciation of situations and terrain in Bishan Park, under Mr Mike.

The lessons were ended with games and play which were fun and allowed the children to put what they learned to good use. One of the games was the practice of braking while going down a gentle slope, under the close guidance of our instructors. This builds up the confidence and ensures that the correct techniques are applied.

Though there was some wet weather on the 2nd day, but it didn't not dampen the spirits of both the children and parents. We hope all the children went away from the camp with new found confidence and skills in Inline Skating. Skateline wishes to thank all the parents and guardians for their support to the camp, and they can look forward to the camp again in the last quarter of the year.
