Report for SNS April 2009 - Scenic Nightskate
Report by Jon Wong
Skateline Instructor
More than 60 spirited skaters turned up for our latest SNS in April - Scenic Nightskate. This route started from our retail outlet in East Coast Park and ended at Takashimaya in Orchard Rd. On the way, we bypassed beautiful and scenic locations, like the Singapore Indoor Stadium, Kallang Basin, The Esplanade, Boat Quay and Clarke Quay.

After instructing the skaters to meet at the end of Ford Rd, I started a mad dash with some of the skaters who were looking for speed. Others preferred to have fun skating casually and cruised along the park.

We had the chance to try the new route at the link bridge between Tanjong Rhu and Stadium Boulevard, which was a nice uphill climb and great downhill ride. There were plenty of slopes awaiting us along the way, and it was an exhilerating experience riding down Nicole Highway and the underpass tunnels between Esplanade Park, Boat Quay and Clarke Quay.

We were blessed to have perfect weather throughout the journey. Roads works and construction were completed along the Marina Centre area, and we had the pleasure of skating to the S'pore Flyer smoothly for the first time. We were even tempted to skate into the Formula One racing tracks, but the Security Officers kept us at bay.
Though this is not the first time that we have skated along the Singapore Riverside in such a big group, but we were still enthrailed to turn many heads as we skated pass them. It must have been a spectacular sight for the patrons.

This SNS also saw the new batch of SAVs performing their maiden duties, together with some of the veterans. A SAV-shirt presentation ceremony was conducted before the start of the SNS, as a recognition of their volunteerism. And they proved to be worth their mettle as they marshalled and looked after the skaters deligently and effectively throughout the journey.

Many thanks to the new SAVs: Chong Boon, Eric, Jessica and Ruth and also to the veterans: Timothy, Jack, Xinyi, David and Eric Tay.
