SNS June 08 - Skate trip to Kuala Lumpur
Report by Jon Wong
Skateline Instructor
15 skaters, young and old, joined me in our latest overseas skating trip to Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. The last time Skateline had a trip was about 2 years ago back in 2006, where they travelled to Penang.
We departed Singapore on the morning on the 13th, Friday, via coach service and promptly reached Federal Hotel in KL 6 hours later. Upon arrival, and after checking in to our hotel rooms, we headed to Sg Wang Shopping Centre for our 1st skating activity, at the indoor skating rink located at Roller Sports World. The rink was great with a DJ playing music and fully air-conditioned. We also visited our outlet is located next to the rink.

On the 2nd day, we chartered a bus which took us to Sunway Pyramid, one of the famous attraction in KL. After lunch we proceeded with the 2nd skating activity - Ice Skating. Sunway Pyramid housed a big ice skating rink, Pyramid Ice. It was a fun experience for everyone, especially those who have not tried ice skating before, and I was one of them. It wasn't easy to balance on the ice skates initially, but once we got the hang of it, it wasn't that difficult at all.

In the evening, the bus brought us to scenic PutraJaya for the Saturday Nightskate. The SNS was lead by instructors from Skateline Malaysia, and we met some malaysian skaters too. The area outside of Putra Mosque was magnificient to skate on, with huge open areas and flat grounds, it was a perfect place for slalom skating. The route was approximately 12km long, and it was great seeing all the beautiful artifacts and structures as we skate along.

On the final day morning, some of us skated from our hotel to the Petronas Towers. This structure is the symbol of the capital of Malaysia, and a great tourist attraction. It was challenging and fun to skate on the streets of KL, and a magnificient sight as we neared the area. The towers stood out from the rest of the buildings due to its height, but unfortunately the security was tight due to some rioting and we were asked to leave the area. But it was still a great feeling to see the actual tower.
